Lamar Odom in the news for ongoing child custody dispute

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

Over the years basketball player Lamar Odom has been in the news a number of times. Whether it is due to his basketball career, or the fact that the 6-foot-10-inch athlete is married to Khloe Kardashian, his name is frequently making headlines.

Recently though, it wasn’t for basketball or Kardashian. Rather, Odom fell asleep in court while attorneys were discussing the ongoing child custody battle between himself and his ex-girlfriend, Liza Morales. Morales and Odom were together for close to a decade and have a 9-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son together. The two have been in an ongoing dispute.

Morales is supposedly also bitter about the fact that she and Odom never got married and that he hurried up and jumped into a marriage with Kardashian. Given the celebrity status of the couple, Morales has said it was hard to move on from the relationship with something Kardashian-related always being talked about.

A recent news article does not talk about the specifics of the child custody case. However, the fact that their relationship is discussed brings up an important factor that is seen in many Illinois child custody cases.

Frequently, parents go into court fueled by pure emotion. Many times, this can lead to requests that are intended to hurt the child’s other parent. When this happens, and it appears the best interests of the child are not being kept front and center, talk with an attorney in order to make sure that a child custody agreement is fair to everyone involved.
