Illinois residents who are fans of the “Game of Thrones” actress Lena Headey might be following her parenting dispute with her former husband Peter Loughran. Reportedly, Headey took their 6-year-old son to England and enrolled him in school there because she was unhappy with the school system in Los Angeles. Headey says she had Loughran’s permission.
However, one source says that a judge ruled that she is in violation of their parenting responsibility agreement while another says there has not been a ruling. Loughran was supposed to have 10 days per month of parenting time with the child. It is reported that Headey will be able to keep the child in England while she is filming “Game of Thrones,” but she will have to pay for Loughran’s travel to visit the child.
The two divorced in 2011 after four years of marriage. Allegedly, Headey was supposed to return with the child on Sept. 5.
When parents who have primary parental responsibilities wants to move out of the area and take the child with them, they usually are required to get permission from the court to do so. Moving the child to a location where the other parent will have trouble having the same amount of parenting time may not be permitted. Family attorneys will explain to their clients that a judge makes decisions based on the best interests of the child, and it is generally considered to be in the child’s best interests to have contact with both parents as long as there are not extenuating circumstances such as abuse.
